Hyundai Genesis GV80 was produced by the company in 2020 but was officially launched in 2021 as the first sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by the Korean luxury vehicle division under Hyundai.

The GV80 is currently available on three power trains.

The first is a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that delivers 300 hp while the second option is a turbocharged 3.5-liter engine that produces 375 hp and the third is a turbocharged 3.0-liter Diesel engine that delivers 274 hp.

Engine Problem

About 4 complaints came from the engine light of the 2021 GV80. As it stands, it seemed the problem was a reoccurring one because many owners stated that after taking the vehicle to the mechanic, these issues still came up incessantly.

One of the written complaints states that the mechanic could not work around the failure and so they disengaged the warning light sensor. After all efforts, this problem still reappeared at about 300 miles.

Wheel Problems

Some owners have complained about the balancing of their GV80, which made the vehicle practically unstable. One owner stated that this issue became more noticeable while driving over bumps as this caused a rattling sound.

Another user added that while pumping the tires, the pressure did not go beyond 33 PSI. Furthermore, he stated that he could hear the air escaping from the tires.

Forward-Collision Problem

2022 Genesis GV80

J.D. Power gives the 2022 GV80 a reliability rating of 78 out of 100, while Edmunds gives it a 7.9 out of 10 rating. You have to admit that’s pretty impressive.

This model has a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.5-liter v-6 engine. These engine options reek of power and performance as the former delivers 300 horsepower while the latter produces 375 horsepower.

That aside, the brakes of the GV80 are slightly below par as it responds unexpectedly sometimes and the steering of the vehicle is a bit heavy.

Thankfully, the handling satisfies expectations, as it is lighter, especially on a highway cruise. Going further to the comfy part of the GV80, this model does better than most of its rivals.

All the v6 engine options come equipped with an electronically controlled suspension system that makes use of a forward-facing camera.

This compartment reads and interprets the road conditions and makes quick adjustments to the suspension. Additionally, there are plenty of advanced driving aids and the majority of them come as standard features.

2023 Genesis GV80

There isn’t too much difference when comparing the 2022 and 2023 models of the GV80.

However, one major distinguishing feature between them is that for the 2023 version, the company discontinued the use of the rear-wheel drive version of the 2.5T four-cylinder engine.

This trim was the cheapest of all. However, with this new design, buyers will have to spend more than their budget. If you can afford it, it’s worth the money.

The company also discontinued the 3.5T Prestige Signature trim alongside its rear captain’s chairs and a wireless charging pad on the second-row seats.

Speaking of engines, the 2023 model comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 300 hp and a six-cylinder engine that produces 375 hp.

The SUV is a bit athletic and delivers a quiet ride due to its insulated cabin, but it is not as excellent as its rivals. The brakes of this model respond too quickly at times and the steering isn’t as swift as the likes of Porsche or Audi vehicles. 

Like the 2022 version, this GV80 comes with an electronically controlled suspension that uses the front camera to read the road ahead and make quick adjustments on some road conditions.

The 2023 GV80 will equally do great on the highway, especially for a long cruise.

The seats’ comfort is solid as they come supported and adjustable. On the higher trim, the front seats come with a massage function that feels totally relaxing. The finishing touch of the cabin is blessed with a unique wood trim, metal accent, and ambient lighting.

Its infotainment screen is sized 14.5 inches, and it stretches across the dashboard. This compartment is within easy reach and simple to navigate through.

The wheel controller is placed at the center console, which makes it easy for drivers to focus on the road while interacting with the whole car system.

A full suite of driver aids is found standard on the GV80, especially the semi-autonomous system that imitates the driver’s driving habits and implements them in future occurrences.
