Where Are Chevrolet Trailblazers Made? (Solved & Explained)

The Chevrolet TrailBlazer is one of the most popular Chevy models in North America and around the world.

The Blazer Trim Line was produced between 1999-2001, and GM produced a distinct model for North America between 2001-2008. This served as the first-generation Chevy Trailblazer.

The Chevrolet Traverse succeeded the Chevrolet TrailBlazer in 2009. In 2012, GM began production of the second-generation Chevy Trailblazer in Thailand and Brazil, and GM sold it in select Southeast-Asian countries.

A crossover version of the Chevy Trailblazer began production in South Korea and China in 2020 for the 2021 model year.

This article digs right into the different assembly plants and countries that have handled the production of the Chevy Trailblazer.

Where Are Chevrolet Trailblazers Being Made?

The Chevy Trailblazer (crossovers) is currently being built and manufactured in Incheon, South Korea, and Shanghai, China.

GM assembled the first-generation Chevy models (SUVs) at assembly plants in the United States and Russia.

In the U.S., it was produced in Moraine, Ohio, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Kaliningrad Assembly in Kaliningrad, Russia, was the production location in Russia.

GM produced the second-generation models in Rayong, Thailand, São José dos Campos, Brazil, and Halol, Gujarat, India.

This was for model years between 2012 and 2020; however, GM halted production in Thailand in 2020 while production is ongoing in Brazil.

Are TrailBlazers for The U.S. Market Produced in the U.S.?

GM halted the production of Chevy TrailBlazers for the U.S. and Canada markets in 2009 to make way for the Traverse Model.

The Chevrolet Traverse model was dubbed the Trailblazer’s successor in the U.S. market.

The second-generation Trailblazer models targeted markets in Brazil, Thailand, Australia, and parts of southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, the new crossover Trailblazer models are strictly for Asian markets and are produced in China and South Korea.

Are They Being Assembled in the U.S.?

No model of the Chevy Trailblazer is currently being assembled in the U.S. since GM shut down the Moraine plant in late 2008.

The new Chevy Trailblazer (crossover) models are assembled at GM plants in South Korea and China. However, second-generation Trailblazers (SUVs) are assembled in Brazil and Thailand.

How Can You Check Where A Specific Trailblazer Was Produced?

Like every other model, Chevy Trailblazer models come with a unique vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN is a code with 17 characters that, when decrypted, reveals vital details about the vehicle.

You can find information including country origin, production date, past recall date, and other necessary details in your vehicle’s VIN.

The VIN is mostly located at multiple spots in the car, most commonly the driver’s side of the windscreen or right below the driver’s door. You can also get it from your title records or vehicle insurance card.

You can use free VIN decoders online to get a full information about your Chevy Trailblazer country origin.

Note that vehicles produced on the American continent usually have VINs that start with a number while other continents begin with alphabets.

Are Japanese Or European Built Trailblazers Better?

There are currently no Japanese or European-built Trailblazers in the market. Some first-generation Chevy Trailblazers were built in Kaliningrad, Russia, at some point.

However, the production of these Trailblazer models has been shut down since 2009.

The new Chevy crossover models are built in South Korea and China, and there have been no reports of any Japanese plants.

Where Is the Trailblazer Designed?

The Chevrolet Trailblazer models are likely designed at the facilities of GM Korea, because that was where it was developed.

However, it is possible that elements of the North American Trailblazers were designed at GM design studios in the U.S. and other countries.

Where Are Trailblazers Made for The Australian Market?

GM included Australia as a target market for the second-generation Chevrolet Trailblazers made in Thailand and Brazil.

In Australia, they were called “Holden Colorado 7” between 2012 to 2016 and “Holden Trailblazer” between 2016-2020.

GM’s Holden brand handled distribution in Australia until recent reports revealed the company’s decision to retire it.

This news has effectively halted the recent supply of Chevy Trailblazers to the Australian market.

GM’s new Australian brand, GMSV, is expected to launch the Corvette and Silverado pickups in Australia for starters.

With the emergence of the GMSV, there is a good chance the Trailblazer will return to the Australian market later in the decade.

Where Are Trailblazers Made for The Canada Market?

First-generation Trailblazers for the Canadian market and all of North America have been halted since the 2008-2009 model year.

At the time, they were made and assembled in Ohio, U.S., and Kaliningrad, Russia.

It remains to be seen whether the new Chevy Crossover Trailblazers will be supplied to the Canadian market.

Where Are Trailblazers Made for the U.K. Market?

General Motors isn’t supplying Trailblazers to the UK at the moment. None of the first-second generation models were made for the UK markets.

There are no indications that GM will supply the new crossover Trailblazers to the UK market.

The chances are even lower considering GM dropped the Vauxhall-Opel (UK partner brand) in 2017.

Is Chevrolet Planning to Move Its Production?

Chevrolet appears to have moved most of its assembly plants back to the United States in recent years. This is in solidarity with the recent clamors to facilitate more American jobs by prioritizing American labor and products.

If there will be any more moves happening, it will likely be a move of more external assembly plants to the U.S.

It has most of its plants in the U.S. and develops its vehicles with mostly American components. The American-made index list by Cars.com placed 9 Chevrolet model vehicles in the top 25.

In the same vein, the American University named it number one on its recent Made In America Index list.

Not to mention the Chevy Suburban is the very first inanimate object to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Chevrolet brand is as American as it gets.
