Sub-Compact SUVs With Folding Side Mirrors
Below are three subcompact SUVs that have folding side mirrors.
1. 2020 BMW X1
Built with a new front and rear bumper, the 2020 BMW X1 offers a faster transmission. It offers a compact cabin that could accommodate only 4 people comfortably and still spare some space for cargo.
This vehicle and other latest models feature adjustable side mirrors that you can control with a button. You’ll find the folding button beside the L/R adjustment switch that controls the rearview mirrors.
You can as well activate the ‘fold mirrors in when locked’ command to enable the mirrors fold automatically when you lock the door. Learn how to do this below.
Go to ‘My Vehicle’ under the infotainment setting. Then tap ‘vehicle settings’ – doors key – driver’s door. Scroll down to locate the option that reads ‘fold mirrors in when locked’, and you’re good to go.
These steps work for many BMW X series, including the X2 and X3 models.
Without the side mirrors, the 2020 BMW X1 measures an overall width of 71.7 inches. With the two side mirrors making up for an additional 9.4 inches, driving this vehicle could be a little uncomfortable in a tight space. That’s where the folding mirror comes as helpful.
2. 2022 Audi Q3
The 2022 Audi Q3 has a knob around the door of the driver’s side which helps to control the side mirrors. As long as the ignition is on, placing the knob in a 6 0-clock position folds the mirrors, and when returned to the normal position, they unfold.
Aside from the control knob, you can also open and fold the mirrors via the knob.
This vehicle is about 79.7 inches wide, with the side mirrors. So, having the mirror folded will reduce the width by about 6 inches on both sides to make the vehicle move comfortably in a tight space.
Compact SUVs SUVs With Folding Side Mirrors
Here are 3 compact SUVs that have folding side mirrors:
3. 2022 CR-V Hybrid
The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid does not only have its side mirrors foldable; the vehicle boasts of power folding mirrors. That is to say that a driver can adjust the position of the mirror using an automated button from inside the vehicle.
Designed to be aerodynamic, you’ll hardly feel the effect of the wind on the side mirrors. Note that only the LX and the Special Edition trims have the power side mirrors as a standard feature.
While the width of this small SUV is 73.0 inches, the side mirrors add about 8.5 inches to the dimension. Thanks to the adjustable control of the side mirrors, this dimension poses little concern to the driver, especially in tight corners.
The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid is not only popular for the power side mirrors, it is also notable for its fuel economy and affordability.
4. 2022 Kia Sportage Nightfall Edition
The 2022 Kia Sportage is another impressive compact SUV that features foldable side mirrors. This SUV works with either a manual or electronic mirror.
As you would expect, the manual type will require your physical efforts to adjust the mirror–just by pushing it in and pulling it out.
The more alluring electronic one, featured by the Nightfall Edition, works with the press of two buttons around the door. Mind you, the engine needs to be on for the switch to work.
A press of the control button will fold the mirrors, and you’ll unfold it by depressing the button. Mind you, attempting to close an electronically controlled side mirror by hand could damage the electric motor inside.
The 2022 Kia Sportage also has a width of 73.0 inches without the side mirrors. While the mirror is about 6.5 inches wide, driving this SUV attracts convenience.
5. 2022 Mazda CX-5
Coming with one of Mazda’s most attractive designs, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is another impressive compact SUVs that features a foldable side mirror.
In fact, the CX-5 is one of the few compact SUVs with power-folding side mirrors.
Although it is not a standard feature in all the models, this SUV also divides the mirror into two curvatures aimed at minimizing the driver’s rearward blind-spot.
As with many modern vehicles, you can regulate the mirror using the buttons around the door. You’ll have to first tilt the control to pick either the left mirror (L) or the right one (R) before controlling it using the 4-sides button.
Also, because the 2022 Mazda CX-5 works with power folding mirrors, you get to either set it to on-road position or park position using the designated button. Note that it is not safe to interfere with the mirror while they’re being folded; neither is it safe to switch the mirror while on motion.
Mind you, while the control button is determined by particular models, some models of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 feature an automatic folding function. This enables the side mirrors to fold out when you switch on the engine.
Just like the other compact SUVs here, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 has a width of 73.0 inches, with the side mirror adding 8.35 inches on the two sides.

Being a smart ride, you can lock the door using the remote transmitter or by touching the door lock sensor on any of the doors, aside from using the key. Once the door gets locked, the side mirrors fold in.
Similarly, when you unlock the door using the key or the remote transmitter, the mirrors fold out automatically. While you can also turn the automatic folding side mirrors on and off using the designated button, they won’t fold automatically when you lock the door from inside the vehicle.
The 2023 Acura MDX is a little bigger than the others here, at 79 inches wide. With the side mirror that is about 6.5 inches wide, the power folding mirrors are an important aspect of the SUV.
8. 2022 Ford Edge
Aside from offering a good fuel economy, the popular Ford Edge is a fun-to-drive SUV. The 2022 edition comes with an automatic start and stop system that helps to save gas when you remain idle in traffic.
You’ll also admire the fact that the 2.0 L engine gets an admirable 28 mpg on highway drive.
Unlike the other SUVs here, the 2022 Ford Edge falls on the average in terms of the side mirrors. While the vehicle is a little wider, at 76 inches, and the side mirrors taking a dimension of about 10.8 inches wide, you can only fold the mirrors manually.
Like every other modern vehicle, you can still control the glass via the buttons around the door.
Mind you, aside from collision and other accidental damage, non-electronic foldable side mirrors have their advantages too. You need not bother about damaging any electric motor while the mirror gets involved in a deliberate push.

10. 2022 Honda Pilot
While it offers a spacious cabin, the 2022 Honda Pilot also comes with an improved driving experience powered by a V6 powertrain.
You may not admire the exterior design, as it is not as eye-pleasing as several other competitors. Still, this Honda Pilot is preferred for its fuel efficiency and roomy cargo.
We particularly admire that fact that the 2022 Honda Pilot maintains the use of power folding side mirrors just like the 2021 model. For the latest model, you can control the mirror using the buttons usually placed around the driver’s side armrest or dash.
Use the left/right selector switch to select the side to control before using the 4-sides button to adjust a selected mirror. Beside the L/R button is the button needed to fold the mirror in and to spread it out.
At 78.6 inches wide, the 2022 Honda Pilot is a little wider than the Ford Edge. If we consider the size of the two side mirrors, around 9 inches wide, it is just so required for this SUV to feature folding mirrors.
Other Mid-size SUVs that feature these mirrors include, but not limited to the following:
- Volkswagen Atlas Cross, Sport, SEL, Premium, and Premium R-Line
- GMC Acadia Denali
- Subaru Outback Touring, Onyx, Limited XT, and Touring XT
Full-size SUVs With Folding Side Mirrors
Below, we have a full-size SUV equipped with folding side mirrors:
11. 2019 Lexus LX 570
Lovers of entertainment may not love the fact that this full-size SUV comes with no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
However, this vehicle offers extended standard safety features. While it offers a conducive cabin and a convenient ride, it also features folding side mirrors.
The side mirrors open and fold in two ways. Press the auto button on the side of the armrest console around the driver’s side to allow the mirrors open and fold as you open and close the door.
You can as well control these rearview mirrors via the folding button beside the auto button.
Being a full-size SUV, the Lexus LX 570 is a little wider than other ones here. With a length of 200 inches and a width of 78 inches, driving this big ride may pose a little difficulty in a tight space.
This could even be more difficult when you consider the extended width of the side mirror, about 7.6 inches. However, you can minimize this size by folding the mirrors.
That the side mirrors also feature the blind spot warning system is another factor that makes this SUV stand out.
The LX SUV is one of the few SUVs with rear heated seats, making it ideal for backseat passengers.
