For many people, driving a Ford SUV is a privilege, as these vehicles are known for their dependability and a high number of amenities.

There are currently several different brand-new Ford SUVs to look for if you’re interested in purchasing one.

There are:

  • the Ford Explorer,
  • the Ford Escape,
  • the Ford Bronco
  • Ford EcoSport,
  • the Ford Edge,
  • the Ford Expedition,
  • and the Ford Mustang Mac-E

Here is an overview of four different Ford SUV models compared, past and present.

Ford’s Sub-Compact SUVs Over The Years

Ford Ecosport

The Ford EcoSport is an ultra-compact SUV that has been around since 2003, but it was only sold overseas until 2018, which is when it made its debut in North America.

The Ford EcoSport continued to be manufactured and sold in Brazil and other countries until it began being sold in North America in 2018.

During its debut year in the United States, the Ford EcoSport received a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from Car Buzz, a 7.3 out of ten from U.S. News, and a 5.2 out of ten from Car Connection.

Drivers of the EcoSport rated the vehicle low, as many felt that the SUVs from the competition were more fun to drive, had more amenities, and were more reliable.

The cost of a brand-new Ford EcoSport costs about $23,335 and comes with a sportier body, and more attractive amenities and safety features than earlier models.

It comes equipped with AWD, and it has the ability to tow smaller, lighter-weight items. You can read more here about how long the Ford Ecosport lasts.

What some people dislike about the latest EcoSport is that it isn’t fuel efficient, so just because it’s small and easy to maneuver, people shouldn’t automatically believe that it’s a gas-saver.

Ford’s Compact SUVs Over The Years

Ford Escape

The Ford Escape is a durable compact SUV that has competed with others like the Chevy Equinox and the Toyota Rav4 for a while.

The current model can be purchased for $27,500. There have been many models over the years, and many people agree that the brand-new Escape is sleek, attractive, and absolutely amazing.

Since this model just recently debuted, it’s way too early to determine any mechanical problems, complaints or other issues.

The Ford Escape has been around since 2001, when it made its debut. Safety crash tests were mixed in the beginning, but Ford made a number of useful changes over the years. As a result, the Ford Escape has become a sought-after vehicle that many people love owning and driving.

There was a major recall on the 2001 – 2004 model due to the failure of the subframe. There have also been many other recalls over the years, and the most notable recall occurred in the 2013 model, which had a recall due to faulty airbags.

The airbags were unable to deploy.

Out of all the generations of years of the Ford Escape, it has been voted that the 2012 has been the best model.

Why? Escape owners love the sleek design, but it was extremely safe, and it provided ample savings on fuel, which is frequently an issue in the United States and around the world.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E

When many people think of the Mustang, they imagine a small sports car with a lot of speed. Now, there’s a smaller SUV with a lot of speed, which is the new Ford Mustang, Mach-E.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a highly sought-after vehicle, as it is 100% electric and it offers all the power you would expect in any vehicle.

Debuting with its 2021 model, the Mach-E has experienced mechanical problems. Some of the most frequently reported problems are with the electrical systems and visibility.

With the 2022 model, the Mach-E electronics and the vehicle control system are the main complaints.

You can expect to pay between $27,770 – $55,570 for a brand new Mach-E, depending on the amenities you’re searching for.

Ford’s Mid-Size SUVs Over The Years

The Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco is a mid-sized SUV that has been around for years. It first made it’s debut in 1966 and stopped being produced in 1996, which was its fifth generation.

For the 30 years that the Bronco was in production, it received very high reviews on safety, comfort, and style.

Over the generations, the Ford Bronco underwent a number of major changes to both its engine, transmission, interior and exterior.

A sixth generation is born

For people who had known and loved the Ford Bronco for many years, the birth of the sixth generation was filled with excitement and many expectations.

The sixth generation Bronco made its premiere in 2021, but ever since its debut, it’s been extremely difficult to purchase one, as there have been various halts in production.

These halts in production have been due to part shortages, in some cases. Most buyers are required to pre-order their Bronco, which will become available in an undetermined amount of time.

A brand-new Ford Bronco can be purchased for just under $30,000 to much more, depending on the specific model of the Bronco you choose, as there is the Bronco, the Bronco Sport, and the Bronco Raptor. These are three very attractive vehicles that come with power, style, safety, and more.

In comparison to other vehicles in its class, the Ford Bronco has always been and remains a very strong contender.

Some competitors, like the Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Rav4, and the Land Rover, all have great amenities and stats, but the Ford Bronco holds its own and remains at the top of the list when it comes to safety, speed, and so much more.

Ford’s Full-Size SUVs Over The Years

Ford Expedition

The Expedition is a premium full-size SUV that Ford manufactures.

Even the police drive Ford Expedition SUVs.

For people who like larger, more luxurious vehicles, then the Expedition is for them.

The Ford Expedition made its debut in 1997 and had a standard engine that was the 4.6 liter Triton V8 with the 5.4 liter version optional.

This first-generation Expedition is considered a good durable model. You can read more here about how long the Ford Expedition will last.

The Expedition has undergone various changes over the years, and many of these changes have been made to consistently improve the Expedition’s safety, appearance, and numerous other aspects of the years.

The engines in the Expedition changed over the years, as Ford was attempting to choose the absolute best engine to operate this premium SUV.

The first generation Expedition won many safety awards and was considered to be a safe and very comfortable vehicle.

The second generation of Expeditions made their appearance in 2003, and this is when Ford decided to redesign the SUV. The redesign included all aspects of the vehicle in order to make it better in every way possible. Towing capacity increased, going from 8100 lbs to a whopping 8,900 lbs of towing capacity.

The third generation Expedition was released in 2007 and went until 2017. This particular generation came with changes to the body, the engine, as well as the interior, just like prior generations.

The Ford Expedition has always been highly regarded.

In comparison to other large SUVs, such as the Chevy Tahoe, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and the Lincoln Navigator, the Ford Expedition is the preferred choice by many.

The fourth generation of the Expedition began in 2018, and it came with an entirely new and updated design.

If you’re looking to purchase a brand new 2022 Expedition, then expect to pay between $52,905 – $84,670, depending on the amenities you’re seeking.

The Ford Excursion

The Ford Excursion wasn’t around for long, as it was available from 2000 – 2006.

It was discontinued due to low sales and being voted one of the worst cars of all time. The sales were the lowest that Ford/Mercury had ever had.

This SUV had major engine problems that occurred while the mileage was still low on this SUV. There were many other complaints about the functionality of the Excursion, but engine problems were top of the list.

The Ford Exurcsion was massive, and it was also the heaviest and longest SUV to be mass-produced.

It seems as if the Ford Excursion is making a comeback, and there was a release of a 2021 model that was redesigned. The price for a brand new Excursion starts at about $40,000 and up.

The Ford Explorer

This Ford SUV has been around for years. In fact, it made its debut in 1991, and since then, it’s been one of Ford’s best selling SUVs.

Over the period of six generations, the Ford Explorer has undergone a number of major changes. When it first debuted, the Explorer was more of a replacement for the Bronco, but over the years it developed a personality of its own.

The current Ford Explorer is completely different than the very first model was back in 1991, as it has many more premium accommodations that keep loyal customers happy.

For a brand-new Explorer, you can expect to pay $36,760 – $56,275, depending on the trim that you choose.

How Do Ford’s SUVs Compare to the Competition?

Many people have made negative comments about Ford vehicles over the years, whether it was a car, truck, van, or SUV. Some have even gone as far as to say that Ford is an acronym for “fix or repair daily.”

Despite these negative comments that have been made about Ford vehicles over the years, their SUVs have been and continue to be pretty hardy contenders when it comes to the competition.

In fact, Ford’s SUVs have high safety, comfort, acceleration, and efficiency scores, causing them to be superior to many other brands of SUVs that are on the road.
