8 Cars With Extra Wide Door Openings (With Pictures)

Some cars, especially those with limited door openings, don’t always make entry and exit very easy for passengers. Now, this can be a significant challenge for families that have little children or people with limited mobility.

Though these categories of people need vehicles that offer enormous doors, getting one is not always easy.

You may need a car with wide door openings and you find it difficult to get one. Join us to explore the 10 cars with wide doors we explored in this article.

You can also check our article on the 14 SUVs that are easy to get in and out of.

1. Subaru Forester

The Forester is a popular choice among car buyers living in cold climates owing to its all-wheel drive, high ground clearance, and a long list of driver-assist features as standard.

This compact SUV also offers wide and tall door openings for easy access and exit. For now, there are no official reports on the 2023 Forester door opening width.

However, from research, its doors are one of the biggest among cars under the compact SUV category.

The elderly, disabled, and children can easily enter and exit using these rear doors. Its front doors also provide enough space for the driver and passenger to enter and exit conveniently.

Note that the rear doors don’t slide, which would have made it easier to access the rear seats. There is also a wide back gate for easy access to the cargo area.

Though the Subaru Forester models are impressive, you can check the 6 issues common to them.

2. Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe is one of the most affordable midsize SUVs with its long list of amenities. This SUV also offers lots of cabin space and good fuel economy.

The 2023 Santa Fe is another car on our list with wide door openings for easy mobility. Owners should have no problem accessing the front and rear seats in their 2023 Santa Fe. These include the elderly, children, and the disabled.

Also, the second-row seats fold for easy entry into the last row of the vehicle and there is a lot of space in all rows for a convenient ride. Owing to the wide openings, getting car seats in and out of Santa Fe is as well easier.

3. Ford Edge

The 2023 Edge comes with a lot of standard features and a spacious cabin space. The front seats also offer enough comfort, though this is not available in the rear row.

The Ford Edge is another car with wide door openings.

Its doors are large enough for easy entry and exit for both the front passengers and the rear passengers.

There is also an Easy Entry and Exit feature. When active, this feature automatically slides the driver’s seat backward by up to two inches when the driver turns off the ignition, giving more space to exit the car.

After turning on the ignition, however, the driver’s seat will go back to its original position.

Children, elderly and disabled passengers should also not have a hindrance entering through any of the doors. Another source of ease is its low floor for easy exit and entry as well.

You also need not worry about getting your car seats in and out as the door provides enough openings to move them quickly.

4. Kia Soul

One of the notable advantages of the Kia Soul is its lots of standard features for an affordable price. The cargo and cabin space is roomy and the infotainment system is user-friendly.

The Soul offers a wide, high door opening for easy entry and exit.

Car experts have reported the doors open wide to a high H-point for an accessible entrance to almost everyone, including people with limited mobility.

There is also the low ground clearance that aids easy entry and exit. Getting car seats or other bulky items in and out of the Kia Soul is also easy owing to the doors, and the spacious interior allows for comfortable seating.

5. Mazda CX-9

The Mazda CX-9 offers an impressive interior design. Its cabin is spacious, and there is a long list of standard features.

Meanwhile, we also recommend checking the article on the 5 Mazda cars with the most recalls before buying a Mazda.

There aren’t enough reports on the 2023 Mazda CX-9 door details yet.

However, Edmunds reported that the doors are wide enough for easy entry and exit, and access to the third row is better than the previous model year.

We also included it in this list owing to the wide door frame the 2022 model possessed. This model year reported wide door openings in the front and the rear.

So far, there are no reports that Mazda has upgraded the door size of its 2023 CX-9. Owing to this, the 2023 model will maintain this feature.

Whether for children, the elderly, or the disabled, getting in and out of the 2023 CX-9 should not be an issue. Moving car seats in and out of the vehicle should also be easy owing to the wide and tall doors in the rear.

6. Honda CR-V

The 2022 CR-V features an upscale interior, roomy seats, and good gas mileage. The CR-V also offers a comfortable ride.

The door openings of the 2022 CR-V are quite wide, just like the aforementioned cars on this list.

Drivers and front passengers have access to wide door openings and there is no limitation to easy entry and exit in the front and rear doors for almost everyone. These include the elderly, children, and the disabled.

The rear doors open to 90 degrees to make one of the widest openings on our list. Its seating space in the rear is also one of the largest in this category for a comfortable ride.

Carrying a car seat in and out of the 2022 CR-V is also easy as the doors are wide enough. It comes with a power tailgate on some models, which makes accessing the cargo space also easier.

There is also the 2023 model year that also offers the feature of large door openings for easy mobility. This model year also comes with a system that slides the driver’s seat for easy entry and exit.

7. Honda Civic

The 2021 Civic is a compact car with great fuel economy and a spacious cabin. Most Civic models seat 5 passengers except for the Type R, which seats 4.

Being a sedan or hatchback does not stop the 2021 Civic from having a wide door opening for both the front and the rear passengers.

Owing to this, getting in and out of the vehicle is a breeze for the elderly, children, or disabled.

Though the rear doors open wide, taller passengers may need to duck when going into their Civic owing to a sloped roof. Getting car seats and other bulky items into this car is also easy.

8. Nissan Versa

The Nissan Versa is a sub-compact sedan that offers a low range of prices for its class.

However, the Nissan ranks poorly among the sub-compact cars owing to its many cons, like its few features, and low rent cabin, among others.

Thankfully, for the doors, the Nissan Versa is one of the few sedans with wide door openings for easy entry and exit.

Its doors open almost 90 degrees for a very wide entry.

Owing to these wide doors and spacious cabins, children, the elderly and the disabled will have no issue getting in and out of the car.

Also, where there is a need to install a car seat or store bulky items in the rear, the doors are wide enough for owners to carry them in and out easily.

However, if owners may consider other factors aside from doors, we recommend the Nissan Versa years 2020 and above.

So far, these model years have received better reviews from car experts than the 2019 model year.

Note that these model years may not provide as much ease to enter and exit the doors as the 2019 models. Would you like to know the 12 SUVs with the lowest ground clearance?
